So I now have a foster dog...breed guess and vent

this isn't a new road for me, having fosters that is but it's the circumstances that I'm upset with. He is my brother's dog. They got him when he was 12 weeks old and he is now approx 1. He is an absolute doll. Has the biggest, sweetest disposition you could ask for. The problem is, he is a "chewer". He likes shoes, glasses, socks, etc. Things that can very easily be picked up and put away. I got a call yesterday from my brother in tears stating that he chewed his wife's glasses for the second time in 2 weeks and she has already called the pound. My brother is a HUGE animal lover and he was so upset that he called me wanting to me to find him a home before the next day! After much thought, I decided to take him rather then give him to the pound being the holiday and the economy, chances are, he would be destroyed. I would have told her to take a freaking hike before I got rid of my dog but hey, that's me.

I am p!ssed that he is being rehomed b/c they are too lazy to pick up after themselves. Is it that hard to put your shoes in a closet or put your glasses in a drawer or on a headboard? He is still a PUPPY that needs training. My brother's wife says that he deliberatly went after her glasses . She has always called him "stupid". He is so stupid in fact that I taught him to sit, down, stay, walk nice on a leash and heel all in one day He is very smart but still has a lot of puppy in him so you have to find what he works for..food.

He's a doll and deserves people that love him but really people? poor guy btw, he hasn't attempted to chew anything here and I have 3 y/o twins that leave toys all over the house. I recently found out that my SIL doesn't allow any of her dogs to have ANY toys b/c it teaches them that everything is fair game. We went to petsmart today and he is thrilled with his new toys : ! Poor guy didn't even know what a dog bed was, we had to physically make him lay down on it before he realized that it was okay

They were told he was a boxer/husky x. Personally, I see a lot of pit bull in him, what do you think?

No, I see boxer X husky. With the mix and his gae, he probably is very high energy.

TBH, sounds like she just may not like dogs. Better she admits it now than when he is older, and she just harbors that resentment towards her DH, I think.

No idea on the breed, but he sure seems to have settled right in with your pack! That is SUCH a cute pic!

I dunno he looks pretty boxer-y to me. But it can be hard to tell in pictures and I'm no expert anyway.

Sounds like he was untrained and under-exercised - a terrible recipe for most dogs, no matter how sweet and smart they are. Heck, it's the smart ones that often cause the most trouble, right? Thank you for taking him in, he looks so much happier already! And I can't believe she doesn't give the dogs any toys - does she think they just won't chew on anything their whole life that way? Oy!

That cute factor photo is amazing!

Yes, very annoying that they would give the dog away, but he's in a much better place now, with you training him and getting him ready for his forever home. He's going to be amazing with your help!

I'd guess boxer/husky, too. Definitely half boxer. Maybe great dane instead of huskey?

She claims to be an animal lover and has a house full of animals. 5 dogs (well 4 now), 6 cats, fish, rats. 2 of the dogs are my brother's from before and are very old. She hates them with a passion but he refuses to rehome them b/c of their age. Her other 2 are "perfect" in her eyes. Ones an English Mastiff that she bred (she use to be a byb to EM's, nice huh?) and the other is a doxie. They are both older and lazy. I did find out recently though that her dd had a cat and my SIL didn't like it so she took it to the pound but told her dd that it ran away!

I know. I told my brother to bring things that he is familiar with to help the tranisition like toys, beds, blankets, etc. My brother says "SIL won't let the dogs have any toys b/c she thinks that will make them chew on the the pillows and he's never had a bed" but he says that he did buy him a nylabone to try and curb the chewing. So he shows up with a crate, leash, collar and a nylabone for this pup. I don't crate unless I have too so dh and I never set it up and he's been here for 2 nights 3 days and been out of a crate the whole time with no issues. He will grab a paper towel that's on the floor and I've caught him picking up one of the cat's toys but that's no big deal. He's a puppy still! and very high energy. I'm actually leaving shoes, socks, etc around the house, right in front of him to see what he does. He doesn't even give them a second glance. Seems to me perhaps something more stressful was going on in that house rather then him being a "chewer".

Thank you. I haven't started looking for a home yet b/c he needs a lot of training and manners yet but he will be a GREAT dog for someone one day.

Too small for a great dane. I have a Great Dane and he is tiny compared to her. He's around 45lbs or so.

I was just thinking that I believe he is around 9 months old. My brother showed up with him 6 months ago and said he was 12 weeks old so that would be about right.

I would guess dane mix based on the shape of his head and the length and squareness of his muzzle, but I agree that 45lbs at 9mos is pretty small.

He's beautiful, and he's so lucky to be with you!

I love the cute factor picture, thanks for sharing that!

This. We have hundreds of dollars invested in Kong and Nylabone and the oh so delightful 5 am nose in the face "Time to walk!" wake up.

I really can't stand people who get dogs and treat them as disposable. I love that last pic too

He is cute, is what he is!

Good for you for taking him in. Need more owners like you! I can't tell you how many times I've taken my brother's dog to a vet, came over and groomed them, etc. If I wouldn't they'd be in the condition of pets you see on Animal Cops.

I had to look at your pictures twice b/c they're so cute!

I see boxer but I don't see any huskey besides the blue eye. But I believe that can show up in other breeds as well like Austailian Cattle and Border Collies.

Yeah, boxer mix of some kind but hard to tell. I thought boxer/dane until I saw your description of his size. What a sweetheart.

It's too bad that he wasn't appreciated in his previous home. I can only imagine your frustration - I'm frustrated for you! I wonder if he also wasn't getting enough attention/exercise (both physical and mental) either - a bored puppy will always find something to chew on. SIL's theory on toys just seems so... backwards! At our house we have dog toys EVERYWHERE... so my guy always has something fun to play with that he's allowed to play with.

Well, like PP said he's in a much better place now, and your love and training will help him become the perfect pet for a family who will truly appreciate him. You're giving him a much happier future.

boxer for sure and I think a little shepherd thrown in because of the muzzle shape but the blue eyes? cattle dog perhaps

Yep a heinz 57, but a cute one

Aww he is adorable! I'm glad that he has it better now!

No clue on the breed, but I think I might be in puppy love.
