My mom is emotionally abusive and has some mental health issues herself.

I never know what will set her off....we can go days or weeks getting along fine and then BAM she freaks out about something and does something crazy. I'm in therapy and working on responding better to her so that I can cope until I can get out.

The trigger this time was that I went over to someone else's house. She doesn't like me to have friends of any kind esp a bf (even though he is also my child's father) so the nicer other people are to me the meaner & more controlling she gets. I have another, married friend who is older than me and has 3 kids, very stable and wonderful to be around; my mom ran out to her van when I was leaving with them once, ripped open her shirt, opened the driver's door and tried to pull my friend out of the car. She will take the batteries out of the cordless phone, lock up all the phones in one room so I can't use them, she has actually cut the cords to various appliances like the computer before to keep me from using them. The only way to keep her happy is to do everything her way.

Hi everyone,

I hope and pray that you are having a beautiful holiday/break. My sister is here and we are having a good time with each other. The kids went to their dad's but came home on Christmas noon. We had a lovely dinner (everyone brought something) and all the little cousins enjoyed playing together. We really had a good family time and I am so very thankful.

I have possible good news. The owner of the house I'm interested in renting has told me that I may be able to rent it as early as Jan 15th. I'm really hoping that I will be able to rent it. It is near a dear friend of mine, and the street dead ends next to the house. That means the kids will be able to ride bikes, skate boards ect in the "cove" and be safe. Big back yard, nice wood floors...my dream rental house. Please wish us luck. It would be great to move out of my parents house by Jan 15th!

That's all for now and I'll keep you all updated!

Sounds very toxic & like a situation you should get your kids away from! I am sorry!

Jyotsna, keeping my fingers crossed on the house!

waiting2bemommy, wow, sounds intense, any other options to move out? Almost sounds like a shelter would be a better option

Well mama's, we haven't been doing so hot here lately, I don't want to go into details but its been a rough week and I could use some hugs

Hugs to Satori and waiting. I'm hoping things get better for you soon

I have some good news... so good that I'm kinda embarrassed to share... but I'm plowing ahead anyway...

We got $910 in Christmas money this year!

It was VERY unexpected. VERY. (And this was from three grandparents, an uncle, and a parent, so no one person gave us all that money!)

We paid our property taxes and this month's car payment. Probably not exactly what they all had in mind, but...

Yay for you guys! I'm hearing so many good stories about other people these last few days and I'm SO happy to hear that the universe is smiling on SOMEBODY right now. Don't be embarrassed, that's awesome!

I hope you at least put aside money for one date night or something though!

Heh, my gift money went to a bill, too. Not fun, but you've got to do what you've got to do, so off it goes to the bills.

Satori, waiting2bemommy -- to both of you. I wish I had words of wisdom to make things better.

The seasonal temp thing dh was doing has ended. He does have an offer for a full time job, but they weren't sure if there would be space in the class that starts on 1/4. If he does not get in that class we don't know when the next class will be. I'm getting far enough along that trying to talk on the phone all day is difficult as I haven't got enough space to breathe and talk at the same time! Hopefully we get good news by Wednesday and he will be starting that class on Monday. It would make money easier and I could go down to part time so I can do shorter shifts. I've got a mw appointment Monday morning where hopefully they have figured out how to schedule things or I may end up happy that they are switching me over to a high risk ob! For some reason I actually expect a medical office to follow through and call back about appointments

Is anyone else as elated as me that this month is almost OVER.... There is no way January can be as stressful as the dreaded December.

I sure am excited to have it over with, this week as totally sucked, ok the month has but this past week has been really bad. Today's bad news was my piece of crap car needed to go into the shop to the tune of $500, needs new brakes for some reason I don't quite understand, my dad did but its over my head, all I know is they were replaced in August and they didn't check the drums on the back or something which caused the front brakes to over heat and ruined the brakes and something needing to be resurfaced or possibly replaced due to warping, the shocks are shot, struts are failing and something else. Told him to just do the important stuff ie the brakes and not to worry about the struts since that wasn't a major issue. He didn't hit the roof this time when I discussed buying a new car (he'd been totally against it but 4 months and $4000 later he's opening up to the idea that yeah, it really is a POS that he should have made the guy take back after we found all those major issues the 1st week)

We did get some really awesome news today though. Were heading to the other end of the state next week for a 2nd opinion Dr appt on my youngest. Its 300 miles and a very long drive, with as much as we have to stop it would take 6-8 hours to drive plus with the car being unreliable I don't feel safe driving it. Anyway, we got a call this morning, Angel Flights is flying us out there and back! Better yet from my local as in 10 minutes away airport so I don't even have to drive an hour into the city airport!

We were not sure we would be able to get a flight so I asked the insurance to help with cost of gas (its something they offer) and this morning after I got the call about the flight I called the insurance co to tell them and they ok'd my using the gas funds instead to pay for the taxi from the airport to the hotel or where ever were staying (on the waiting list for Ronald McDonald House up there which has a shuttle from there to the hospital)!

Yet another kick in the stomach...I just realized that section 8 has a waiting list that is over a year long. We may need it as soon as 3 months from now, so that isn't going to work. Now I guess I am going to have to figure out how to fit my family of 4, soon to be 5, into my MIL's 1 bedroom apartment. I guess I should just be glad that I know we will not be homeless. I should be grateful that I know she would take us in no question, but I am not completely there yet.

I also have to compromise on my birth plans & go back to the horrid midwife I saw with DS1 because she has a birth center (can't give birth in MIL's 1 bed apt) & she takes the sate insurance so the birth won't cost anything. Again I should just be thankful that I have this as an option & won't be forced into a hospital birth, but I am not there yet.

I'd check with the homeless shelters, etc - often if you are classed as homeless {at least in my area} even for one day, you are fast tracked on the section 8 list for housing. It's worth a try even if it means maybe a week of technical "homelessness".
