What are you getting your tween boy for Christmas?

Anyone care to share what they are getting their tween? DS is twelve and other than a few video games he really hasn't mentioned much he's a last minute person but I am not a last minute shopper. I was thinking of some good art supplies or one of those lego technic sets. Anyone else. We buy clothes during the year so we don't do many on CHristmas but I don't buy many "other things" during the year so this is usually when they get most of their "stuff". Anyone care to share?

Video games.

I have three tween nephews and I am really struggling with the gift ideas. I find tween boys far harder than tween girls to shop for. Maybe because I have a tween girl, lol! But seriously, it seems like there's a lot out there for dd's age, and I'm just not as familiar with the guy stuff. I could go with gift cards, but I'd love something more personal or fun.

Building stuff-erector set type kits that have little motors. A woodcarving kit. Stuff to keep his mind busy.

Several books mentioned in another thread

And an electric guitar from his dad, my DH and me, my DS has had a REALLY bad fall and music is what he is into right now. My sister is giving him a subscription to GuitarPro a website that gives you the music for almost any song.

And Doc Martens - probably the only kid in his school that wants them.

He also wants music - iTunes cards - and video games. I will give that list to my family.

I don't remember exactly what we bought ds1 when he was 12, but some of his tween/early teen Christmas gifts have been:

A guitar (used)
A Nintendo game system with games (used)
Various juggling equipment (rings, clubs, balls, flowersticks, etc.)
Leathercarving set

hmmm....I can't remember what his other "big" gifts have been. He got the guitar when he was 10 or 11, and the Nintendo a year earlier or later...can't remember which. He got a Wii last year, but he was 15, which isn't really "early" teens and is a long way from being a tween.

Movie tickets? Gift cards to someplace he likes to hang out with his friends?
If he likes legos then get him a set but i wouldnt really start buying them as a 'new' item now.
What does your son like to do? Does he need any outside stuff? skateboard, scooter, rollerblades, new cool helmet? football/basketball etc?

Is there something special your son has been wanting that is $$ that you usually wouldnt get him?? but would for xmas?

if he's into art, maybe software like Photoshop? or a nice collection of art supplies, like, NOT one of those gift sets, but things you've picked out individually--a sketchpad, color pencils, charcoal, etc...

I second the juggling tools--my son is only 10 but he LOVES poi juggling, which an (adult!) friend of ours got us interested in. search "LED poi" and watch some youtube videos to give you a better idea

maybe a video camera? i recall a friend's 12yo son having loads of fun making "music videos" and recording skateboard tricks with his friends, etc.

good luck!

Some ideas (some from past years, some current):

Skateboard
Boogie board
Tennis racquet
Guitar
Lego Mindstorms
Headphones for his iPod (Skull candy)
Concert tickets

This year, both teens want video cameras. We'll probably get one for the family. Oddly, we bought the editing software first, because ds is taking film studies at school. He's already been working on short films using a camera from school, so the absence of a family video camera is really noticed right now.

Here are some past and present ideas:

-Nerf Gun

-Board games like Othello, Clue Secrets and Spies, Super Mario Chess Set

-Star Wars Legos

-CDs

-Magazine subscription like Sports Illustrated Kids or Boys' Life

He is getting a board game called Settlers of Catan. I have heard it is great, but am nervous that my ds (almost 11) will not like it.

Also LEGO rockband for Wii.

WWF has animals to adopt, so I bought him a penguin

"Santa" is bringing a Wii for the family (DS is 10, dd is 6). He has a Nintendo DS so we'll get him new game for his stocking (probably Bakugan because that's what he is into). I'm considering getting him a cell phone. Not because he needs it yet but because he really wants one and I'm out of patience listening to him beg. How's that for lousy parent motivation? For his birthday he got an MP3 player which was a huge hit, much to my surprise. Last year he got a robot (isobot, I think) that was well received. I have also been considering science stuff (microscope, telescope). He got several chemistry-type kits for his birthday that he loved. He has also be asking for the Lego Mindstorms robot building kit which is too pricey for this year but might appear next year. DS still builds with regular legos now, but I'm not sure he would at 12.

this year he's getting a snowmobile.
also a chinup bar and various other small gifts.

My son is getting a rental (or used, not sure yet) snowboard and boots from me plus a night snowboarding pass, and a new bike from my mom.

I'll get him something else, here's the list I'm considering. He won't get everything on it, but probably a couple of things.

1) flip camera (if I can find one cheap enough)
2) new hockey skates (well new to him, probably used)
3) new skateboard (his old one is worn out).
4) Harry Potter 6 DVD
5) Ice Age 3 DVD
6) prepaid credit card so he can purchase things on games he likes like club penguin.
7) a new book on CD (maybe download from Audible myself and burn to CD
8) bakugan as stocking stuffers.

Mine never stopped. Angela only handed down her collection to her brother because she didn't have the room when she moved out. Dylan got over 25 years worth of Legos in one fell swoop.

My tween is going to be 12 next month and is getting Star Wars lego and electronics kit from my parents, some Wii games from my brother and I have got him some Meccano, a puzzleball, rubiks cube, a hand made wooden puzzle box, 2 Science kits, a DVD, a painting of his favourite Walt Disney ride and a flip video camera as he is really into making videos and animation etc
