Dog w/ possible liver failure :(

Well I guess the title says it all. My oldest who is 6y/o, Apollo (rottie/border collie mix) has bad hip dysplasia and his hips seemed to give out last night while going upstairs. dh had to carry him up and down the stairs. He spent most of the rest of the night laying around. I figured it was just his hips because they always bother him around this time of year - put a heating pad on him for about an hour and he got up and was walking around. We still carried him up the stairs last night for bedtime. This morning around 6am, I put the heating pad on him again for about half an hour and he got up and went into the master bath - where he normally likes to sleep. We all went back to sleep, and he woke me up a few hours later throwing up and I think he slipped in it too. Cleaned it up, and put him in the shower to clean him up and while we were standing in the shower, he urinated. It was bright red!! We rushed him to the vet and they are running blood tests, but think it's either liver failure (he's jaundiced) or anemia (or cancer). I've read online that it could also be cannine diabetes (I knew he was gaining weight because he was getting less active - but did not realize he'd gained close to 20 pounds in the last few years )

I know that if it's liver failure we have to put him to sleep, because I can't make him suffer needlessly because I'm not ready to give him up. The vet didn't really give us much hope if it's anemia either. But he is my first puppy and honestly my favorite. I love this dog - he is my baby. I don't even know what to do today. We're just babying him (he hasn't eaten much all day) and hoping for the best. We should have most of the test results back tomorrow, one will take until Monday I guess. idk if anyone has any words of wisdom, or has been through something similiar (and it was something simple and easily fixed ). Ok, just holding out hope that I won't have to put my baby to sleep this week.

Thanks, Ola. Unfortunately, Apollo passed away tonight. Dh was with him in our bedroom. My heart is broken. As I said before, he was basically my 70lb baby.
