We're still attempting to do the cosmetic things to the house to make it sell. Hubby got a job near PDX and has been down there by his lonesome since mid-November. He got laid off from his old job up here in June, yeehaw. And we live in the land of grass. It's sad. There's some little pockets of hippies, but they're hard to find. So odds are good whoever buys the house may rip up most of our work.

Sucks I didn't get a chance to pull out my celery and some asparagus and raspberries and blackberries and strawberries to throw in pots to bring with us - now it's a slushy mess out back.
Soil isn't so much the concern, as the stuff that's in that'll just keep producing and producing without anybody really taking care of it. I'd built up a decent stash of food out there, you know?
I'm currently pregnant, 31 weeks, almost 32. Hubby's convinced he'll finish up all the random projects around the house next week when he's home because he's bored and lonely down there without us, but I'm more realistic. He probably won't be able to finish things until maybe June since he's only up once a month or so. I finally had my second midwife appt of this pregnancy last week, and will most likely deliver alone (well, or with one of my midwives if she shows up in time). Gave up trying to pack/sort/anything last week. Between the kids and belly and being exhausted from the single parenting gig (oh, and sitters flaking out on me or the kids getting sick and so on), yeah. The Braxton Hicks that started up aren't helping my cause, either. Another reason why I doubt we're moving down there for months. Hard to move when it looks like a moving truck literally crashed into your house.

Ah, good times.

Um... doubt it? I did a girl weekend in downtown Portland in 2001 with my sister, and then the kids and I visited hubby a few weeks ago so I could actually
see where we're landing and not go into it completely blind. Did find a groovy-sounding CSA on Cornell Road though, mostly by sheer dumb luck. Gotta love that. Unless you're from Spokane or Kootenai counties... Oh, I do have a blog, but have had to lock it down here and there for various reasons.

I got mine the other day, too! Ah, seed catalogs just make your day better.
Has your ground even frozen solid down there? It did for a few weeks up here, but now we have a soggy, muddy, slushy mess. I bet you probably could plant garlic, but it wouldn't be clean or fun. I'd suggest a random piece of PVC pipe (cheap auger!) and [nitrile] gloves or something.

I know some folks down in zones 8 or 9 get away with planting in January and get their garlic just fine in June/July.

It has been one helluva year, that's for sure. I certainly won't be forgetting it. Ever.
