Thread Starter
I am looking for a secular homeschool forum like MDC but with homeschool as its sole focus. Does anyone know of any? Thanks

Wasn't there a thread a while back that brought up other homeschool forums? I think the consensus was that MDC was the best homeschooling forum there is.

Yep, what Fujiko said! This is the best one I've found yet too... there is a huge variety of homeschooling 'styles' represented here, and the mamas are all happy to share info with anyone that stumbles in

There is one here, but it is really, really slow. http://z15.invisionfree.com/Homescho...ex.php?act=idx

I won't go to forums if they're dead. I haven't been able to find secular homeschooling forums that I can actually learn things everyday. Other than MDC, my favorite is WTM, where I learn things every minute! Not totally secular, but has enough secular members that I can learn from.

First, I love it here.

I have not found any specifically secular forums that aren't echoing with quiet. But I have found a small collection of Yahoo groups for secular homeschoolers:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WellTrainedMindSecular/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TJEdSecular/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SecularCM/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/secular_homeschoolers/

On the recommendation of others here, I have also recently joined the Well Trained Mind forum:

http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/

It is not specifically secular, but secular homeschoolers are well represented there. The forum also has guidelines in place that help me to feel safe being openly secular there.

Thank you for that WTM secular group link!

What's great about this one is that we're not all doing just one style....gives you different ways to look at things.

Not what you asked...but I just always have to throw my pennies in.

That's well said, though. No one starts out knowing what they'll eventually be doing - it's an ever-changing process - so it's really good have lots of different ideas going past. For that matter, I think there are people here who aren't even thinking in terms of a particular "style," and that's a plus. Lillian

I don't know of any large secular homeschool forums either, except maybe the Home Education Magazine Yahoo Groups. They often get political though, which might or might not be what you are looking for. You can also do a Yahoo Group search for your area and see if there are any secular homeschool groups in your area that you can join and post in. Moreso though, the MDC homeschool forum is far and away the most informative and if you are looking for secular resources, just try to start that in your subject and/or your first post, and people will mostly always stick by that request. Good luck!

Also anything that is posted in the HEM groups may end up in the magazine.......yup, happened to me....not that it was anything bad, but still caught me by surprise to read the magazine and see my post in it !!!! I suppose maybe that could happen at MDC too ? But I think if MDC does that on occasion, maybe not as likely.....
