Sleep crawling?

Is this possible? DD has recently started crawling around the bed, usually on DH or me. She's sleeping when she does it. She'll crawl for a few seconds, crash back down and sleep hard for a few minutes and start at it again. While she's doing this, she'll also reach out with one hand and pinch or scratch whoever she's closest to. She's 9 months old and sleeps in between us, so we are woken up by it before she can get close to the edge of the bed. The only way to get her to stop has been to nurse her, it'll keep her still and allow her to fall back into a deep sleep...

My oldest sister was a sleep walker and a couple of my nieces and nephews are too. Just wondering if you've seen this so young??

My DS did this too! He is 8.5 months now, but started crawling when he was not quite 7 months. We had about 3-4 nights where he would wake up hourly on all fours and start crawling around. If we picked him up or put him back down he would still be asleep (although I usually also had to nurse him to get him to be still again). It took a few nights of even less sleep than usual, but eventually he stopped the constant movement all night!

Right now he starts out the night on a futon next to our bed, and then comes into bed with us at some point. He only "sleep crawls" to get into bed with us, and then it is the first thing he does when he wakes up for the day (role over, get up on all fours and he is off!). But he didn't do it in the middle of the night for too long!

My understanding is that they do a similar thing when they learn to walk....we are trying to prepare ourselves for that soon since ds is currently working on standing independently ...

I hear you Mama!

I got such great sleep until my LO learned how to crawl. He started sleep crawling, and I had to wake up and pull him back to me each time or I swear he would have just crawled right over us and off the bed (we sleep on a mattress on the floor). Lately, he's walking, so the evening wake ups are even more frequent and include attempts to stand up. *sigh* I figure it will eventually end, and I'm just thankful I was able to get good night's of sleep back when he was so little, and I was so hormonally wrung out!

DS (10mo) sleep-crawls too. I think he's just hungry and looking for me, so I nurse him back to sleep. A handful of times, it has worked to just lay my hand on his back and he falls asleep again.

She's been crawling for a while, so I don't think it's that it's a new trick she's working on. But she has been cruising a lot, practically running laps around the coffee table. She'll let go at the edge and you can see it in her face she just wants to take off running, but isn't quite ready. So, maybe it's walking that's coming soon and that's why she can't stay calm at night? If she isn't heading for me or DH, she is up at the head of the bed trying to pull up to the railing, but still sleeping! Pretty crazy!
