DS has been playing waaaaay too many video games on the computer. He does his work too, but I'm really anti him playing so many 'useless' games during the school day. We have a Jumpstart subscription, but I'd love other suggestions. He is 7.5, second grade, and reads very well. I don't even care if I have to pay for these games, I just need some alternatives to hold his attention while not being a complete waste of time. (Of course, fun games aren't a complete waste, they are FUN, lol, but I think you kwim.)

do you have a webkinz account? a lot of the games on there are not mindless, but rather educational imho. i can't remeber the names of the specific games, but i know my daughter is constantly taking educational quizzes to earn kinzcash. she also likes a game that involves coming up with words using a specific set of letters, etc. there are quite a few other games as well. i can ask my dd if you like? anyway. just a thougt.

Here's a suggestion. Your ds sounds SOOOOO much like mine
Bookmark a bunch of educational sites that he can "pick" from on his own.
Sites like: http://kids.discovery.com/
http://www.whitehouse.gov/
http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forkids...ash/index.html
http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/
The Nasa site is really cool because it has really fun games as does the Nat. Geo and Discovery kids site.
The White House site used to have a children's section but I couldn't find it...but it is sort of cool for them to explore and learn.
There are many many more sites but I'm in a hurry. If I think of more, I'll come back

Some of the Cyber Chase games are educational if he likes that show on PBS at all.
Fun Brain has a Math Arcade that is also pretty fun.
