What to do in place of a Christmas Tree - Page 2

One year we were in a hotel and borrowed a plant from the hallway. We decorated it with what we had. My BIL put his laptop next to it with a burning yule log movie showing. It was quite festive

I have a small artificial tree, tabletop size. We have used that many times when we do not want to deal with the big tree.

We don't have a tree, or ornaments, or christmas decorations of any kind.
But, if that's too little for you, today I saw something really interesting in a restaurant: they had hung ornaments (mostly glass balls) from the ceiling with wire (or fishing line, or string, or something). It was interesting, because you could really see each ornament if you looked, but it was overhead, so you didn't notice right away. I also like the idea of garland on the wall or mantle with the ornaments hanging off of it.

We're using our potted ficus with a few lightweight ornaments and popcorn garland for a holiday tree this year. The popcorn garland gets composted or fed to the birds so there's nothing to hang onto once the holidays are over but a small box of ornaments.

I just got a potted rosemary bush from Target that is shaped into a Christmas Tree shape. It smells good, too, and can be used for culinary purposes for the rest of the year. I put some white twinkle lights on it and it looks super cute. It's up on the mantle (I have a large mantle space, room for a TV but we're TV free so it's open) and put stockings and other cute decorations next to the tree. I'm going to gather up some pinecones for extra decorations, too.

Since it's above the fireplace, the hearth area in front of the fireplace is for the presents.
