Many Questions

My daughter is 12 days old. I pumped twice in the hospital. The LC rec it bc DD was Cooms (?) positive. She didn't lose any weight and bw was good so we went home in 1 day. I pumped two more times when my milk started coming in because I was really engorged but I didn't really get anything and it was painful so I stopped. We've had to use nipple shields a few times when I was really engorged off and on (again today). DD is nursing every 2 - 3 hours during the day but does a 5 hour stretch of sleep at night. My questions...

Should I start pumping again? Regularly (already) or just as needed?

I'll have to start building up a stash eventually. I go back to work March 1st. I was planning to pump every morning after DD nurses but thought I'd let my supply regulate first.

Is this okay or should I start now? Will the PISA be good enough if I had to use a Symphony last time?
If you've made it this far -- thanks!

Unless you are low supply, you probably don't need to pump for a few weeks, until you get regulated. Right now, it is only going to make more milk, leading to more engorgement.

I would just offer the breast as much as possible right now. She'll take what she needs and your body will regulate soon. It's a PITA, I know. I bulged up to a 40FF for a few weeks after DS was born. But it will get back down to a regular supply soon.

my LO is 10 weeks and I started pumping after 3 weeks when most of the engorgement stopped. I had to do it a few times in the middle of the night before then because he was going for 5 hours and I was chock full! It was so much easier to pump it then.... you have to try to wait until you have let down to pump- at least it will make it easier. I massage my breast also to help express the milk. I have a hard time pumping now that I don't get engorged.
