Baby's First Baby Doll?

I've been looking for a nice soft baby doll for DD for Christmas. She's ten months old. We have a jester from Under the Nile, but something more doll-like is what I have in mind. Would prefer natural, maybe Waldorfy, WAHM stuff, but would consider others.

Any ideas?

I LOVE etsy.com for WAHM stuff. This doll is so sweet

Or this one if you want something with more stuffin';

The first one is adorable, and I love the grey. But, it's no bigger than the UTN jester she has.

Love the second one!! Unfortunately, I simply can't justify that kind of money to a baby's baby doll that may well end up as a chew toy for the dog if it gets left in the wrong place. When she's older and takes care of things? Sure! But not yet.

DD still loves her "Bubba" (how baby came out when she first started talking), which is a Corolle Babipouce. I am having another baby girl in January, and plan to get her one eventually too.

After an exhaustive search, ruling out most of the Waldorf dolls I found as they were too small, or too expensive, or too garden-gnome-like, the Babipouce is the one I decided on for DD. She's only 7 months, but I thought it would be nice for my mom to get her her first baby doll for Christmas. And if she ends up never playing with it and preferring her big brother's toys, we're not out a lot of money!

Those are all cute, but I really want to stay with organic, waldorf, WAHM...or at least two of those. So, I might do a minkee waldorfy WAHM doll, or an organic waldorf doll like the three sisters one.

But, i don't want a straight up commercial, non-organic, non-waldorf one.

I'm making my baby's first doll by stuffing one of his first little outfits. all I have to do is make/get a head and hands. You can buy a doll head or make one. in the past I have made one out of a soft spongy type ball and covered it in fabric. If you want to do a bald baby, even easier! the hair is what takes the longest!
you could sew a baby hat onto the head and just put some whisps of "hair" sticking out.

I'm making my DD's first doll too. I bought a waldorf doll head and sewed it onto a little preemie sleeper, which I stuffed with wool. For hands I just took a piece of skin-colored cotton jersey fabric and pulled it over a little ball of wool, then sewed it into the arm holes. I put a little baby hat on it, no hair. And an embroidered face.

Someday, I'm going to add things like hair and maybe an actual body so she can dress/undress it, but for now it's perfect for her.

I got a Haba doll for my daughter for around $20. She loves it. I like that it's a doll that can grow with her, rather than just being babyish.

Hmmm. After reading your further specifications, this one doesn't actually fit, but I'm going to post it just in case somone else is looking too.

Also, there's a mom on here who makes dolls. Her screen name is RollerCoasterMama, and her etsy store is http://lyneya.etsy.com. She does custom dolls too.

I would have loved to get one of hers, but I couldn't rationalize the $$ given our current (dismal) situation.

Hope you find something you like.

I appreciate everyone's suggestions! I still haven't made a decision. Everything I like is too much money for a baby who will, at best, get her doll very dirty. My floors are always dirty, even though I clean every day. Farm life takes their toll on them. So, I imagine any doll will get quite stained. But, yet, I really don't want a plastic head doll, especially a vinyl one.

Still on the hunt!

I'm in the UK - we like the fairtrade dolls made by Sri Lankan company Lanka Kade. They are not expensive and are soft and I think suitable from birth. Not sure if you can get them in the US. Here is a link: http://www.lankakade.co.uk/content/p...sp?qcat1=Dolls
there are quite a range of different ones.

Siar, those dolls are adorable!! Too bad I can't get one here by Christmas. I'm definitely bookmarking it, though!

I'm so lucky! I just managed to get one on ebay for only ÂŁ2.99 - no-one else was bidding on it and it was one of the larger 'mum' dolls too. Think I'll give it to my daughter when she is 1 in March.

I love this idea; making my dd's first doll and using one of her first outfits. I have some real cute ones that will make for great doll bodies.
You just got my creative juices flowing. I made her mobile which she still loves and now I know that this will be a perfect next project. Looking at all these links gave me some good ideas.
