could use some advice. . . - Page 2

Ina May says that except in rare instances, she thinks it is safe (and that women should not be considered post-date) until 43 weeks. And she has run a midwifery practice for decades with a very low c-section rate (like 1-2%).

what I did

I was so scared of having a repeat so called emergency c section that I went ahead and took castor oil a week before my due date even though I showed no previous signs of labor. I didn"t want them to say the baby was to big. I ended up taking about a third of the bottle. I blew up the bathroom for hours but damn it I went into labor. Castor oil really works! Be cautious of dehydration with this method though. You know with all the trips to the bathroom. The baby was healthy almost 7 lbs drug free vbac hospital birth!

My first was born at 41 weeks via c-section (spontaneous labor, big baby).

With my second, I waited and waited to go into labor. Because I was a VBAC, *I* did not feel comfortable with induction (important to note--my doctor was willing, it was *me* that didn't feel comfortable). On the evening of 41 5/7 (so 12 days overdue), I gave up. My doctor was going out of town the next AM, and I chose a repeat c-section with a provider I knew rather than wait for spontaneous labor and deliver with an unknown.

For me, it was the right choice, and I had/have peace about it.

I think that there will come a day when you'll feel comfortable one way or the other. As long as you are comfortable waiting, I'd wait.
