But I don't want to do nighttime EC!!

Sorry for all the posts but I have way too many questions and no friends around here who do EC.

DD's taken to EC really well. She's *almost* a daytime graduate. Some days we don't have any misses at all. Although, when we leave the house we normally have a miss. However, she seems to have really taken to it and now she got the bright idea that she wants to do it at night too.

I know that might not sound like a bad thing to most but I already struggle with insomnia and getting out of bed to put her on the potty is just about the worst thing in the world for that. Also, DD always ends up waking up too much and then wants to party!

Basically, what's been happening is that she will wake up and nurse but won't fall back to asleep (like she has always done since she was born) and will sit up instead. So I put her on the potty, she pees A LOT. Then she'll nurse a bit more but won't sleep again. So should I start putting her on the potty first? She still wakes up a lot at night and not every time is for the potty so when do I put her on the potty and when do I just nurse her back to sleep? Part of the problem is that she won't fall back asleep any way besides nursing so if she refuses to nurse we're doomed. However, if she hasn't nursed enough before she goes on the potty than she cries, so I'm just not sure what she wants!

Sigh, I wish she'd wait until she had night weaned first, I think half the time she has to keep peeing so much because she wakes herself up to much and then has to nurse more, which makes her need to pee again. Ahh!

This happened to me with DS... We started EC at 2 weeks, and by 6 weeks he insisted on nighttime ec (same as you, he wouldnt go back to sleep until I pottied him, then would nurse back to sleep, then he would he have to pee again!!!). Then at 8 mos he refused to do nightime EC, then at 12 mos, he was constantly waking up (not that he ever has sleeping well) like every 20 mins... he wanted to do nightime ec again... Seemed like everytime I adjust and finally have a smooth routine, he changes again... Now, at 15 mos, he wakes up at exactly the same times every night, pees and falls asleep without nursing... sometimes while I am peeing him he falls back asleep on the potty

Haha, your bolded statement sounds EXACTLY like DD! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one. I hope she goes to having a consistent peeing time soon, that would help a lot! I guess i just have to stick this out and follow her cues...

It seems like we have a change every couple of weeks, too! Night time EC has been rough around here, but since about 17 months ish she's mostly been dry at night. (She had a stretch there of sleeping five or six hours, three nights I think it was, and she woke up and peed. I did not mind one little bit after all that sleeping!!!) It does get easier once they decide to hold it at night!

ETA- I just re-read what I wrote, and the fact that I consider 3 nights "a stretch" gives an idea of how frequently things change for us!!!!
