infection/yeast/irritation help

I wasn't sure if I should post here or in health and healing.. but you guys seem to be the experts on foreskin issues

DS is 3 months old and last night I noticed that the end of his foreskin was a little red. We had a bath this morning and the redness went away. We had a ped visit this morning and I was going to ask but it slipped my mind since there was no redness. The ped looked in his diaper and did not note it - he didn't touch his penis so I am not worried about retraction. We got home a little while ago and the redness is back. (eta we were at the ped for a follow up re: dairy intolerance and a wt check)

My thoughts are it could just be irritation from the diaper, or it might be yeast or bacterial infection. What do I need to look out for if it is yeast/infection? I put some lansinoh diaper cream on it (DS currently has no diaper rash, not sure if taht is important). I can't tell if it is bothering him. He has always cried before he pees and that has not changed with the onset of the redness.

What do I do? taking care of a penis is new to me

If it is just the tip and it is just a little red I would say he just has a bit of diaper rash there and to put on barrier cream. If it is yeast you will know it before to long because it will swell a lot and possibly have open lines around the tip. Here is a thread you might find helpful in figuring out if you should be worried or not. http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732 9 times out of 10 this type of thing resolves on its own quickly.
