Need quick suggestions...x posted in bfing

Okay, so Brenan has been on the Nystatin for his wicked oral thrush since Monday. The thrush has seriously receded, especially on his tongue, but he still has these stubborn patches back on his soft palate and towards the back of his throat. Considering he had it so bad, this is a huge improvement, but we are going to run out of our stash of disposable diapers today some time and need to begin using our cloth. I am paranoid this is going to ruin my diapers (he no longer has any yeast diaper rash thanks to California Baby rash cream ) but if it's in his system, I'm afraid of infecting the diapers. I am seriously OUT of money, can't afford another pack of disposables and dang sure can't buy anymore cloth.

I already called the ped and am waiting for a call back to see if he'll prescribe some infant Diflucan.

I have been giving Brenan a little Maxi Baby-dophilus on the tip of my finger to suck on once daily (contains 3 kinds of Lactobacillus and 3 kinds of Bifidobacterium). The instructions call for 1/4 tsp daily, but that just seems like a lot for such a tiny baby, however maybe I should step it up just to see if it helps?

I've also considered running out and getting a bottle of gentian violet, but I have no idea how much it costs (hopefully under $5) or where to buy it (the natural food co-op?).

Any advice? I really have no idea where I should be posting this...I posted over in breastfeeding, and I guess here would be the only other forum I'm familiar with...tia.

I've bought gentian violet at the pharmacy - had to ask for it as it was behing the counter. Thrush is getting much harder to treat (thanks prophylactic ant-biotics for Group B strep!). A friend recently had to resort to diflucan for thrush in her 4 week old after trying everything else under the sun. Can yeast really "infect" diapers? IDK. If you dry them in a hot dryer it seems to me that would take care of it.

just some thoughts off th top of my head:

If you want to keep using the diaper cream and don't want to cause buildup on your diapers, you can cut up either a receiving blanket or a fleece blanket and use the strips as a liner between the ointment and the diaper.

If it isn't the cream you're worried about and the actual yeast, I've heard a vinegar rinse can help get rid of yeast in diapers. Do you have a downy ball? if so, fill it to the line with vinegar and toss in with your diaper laundry. that should be enough to kill off what the hot water and dryer don't get to.

re: the probiotics -- maybe give one more fingertip treatment/day and see how he responds to it.
