15 mo peeing in containers?!

When ds was little, we used tupperware as a portable potty and for a bedtime potty... fastforward to ds being 15 mos and VERY independent. He likes to d everything himself... including peeing. He keeps taking tupperware out of the cupboard and peeing in it and bringing it to me. Sometimes he will pee in three different continers in 10 minutes. I can see that he is actually straining TRYING to pee when he doesn't really have to go, he just wants to pee in the container. Even a drop makes him happy. I'm not stressing out about it (yet) because I'm assuming its a phase, but does anyone have any experience with this?

ok that made me

i really don't have any advice, other than perhaps saying something like "thank you for giving that to me. remember where pee pee goes? in the potty" and take him and the tupperware to the potty and pour it in. then say something like "next time, when you feel like you have to pee, you can sit here on the potty, OK?"
or maybe you could get him one of those little urinals. perhaps the novelty of a new place to pee would make the tupperware seem old hat?

i do have to say, past the newborn phase i have always been pretty adamant about only using potties as receptacles for pee for this very reason (except for the occasional pee outside of course). i always imagined my son peeing in my MIL's bathroom sink while she looked on in horror, or my daughter copping a squat over my mom's favorite mixing bowl or something i figure as long as i'm teaching them to eliminate away from their body, i might as well teach them where to put it too, right? of course, having said that... it's any port in a storm!

It's a stage, but you'll get through it with more composure if you move as much of the tupperware as possible out of his reach. Maybe only leave down the sizes you never seem to use for food if you can't tuck all of it away?

just this morning ds3 (who is 3yrs old) took out the potty bowl that was in the cabinet bcs dd doesn't use it anymore and squated over it and put a whole bunch of pea in there. I walked in on him and was just totally glad he didn't poo bcs that part of his bottom did not fit over the bowl.
At least your ds knows pee goes somewhere besides his pants or the floor. Just throw the tupperware in the diswasher on a sanitize setting. Hopefully it will pass soon.

How adorable!! It definitely shows an awareness of elimination! I think I'd go with moving the tupperware, too.

That is so funny! Tell a non ECer that and see what they say

I'd move the tupperware and keep the potty in that cupboard instead.
