How to raise a low platelet count?

Hello all,

I am 30 weeks pregnant and have been planning for a homebirth. Yesterday my midwife said my platelet count is too low and if it goes not go back up soon I will be risked out and have to deliver in a hospital. What can I do? I am ready to do nearly anything but both my midwife and internist say I just have to wait and see if the levels go back up.

Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

I've heard that getting rid of refined foods in your diet like white sugar can help . . but no clue why or how. Sorry not much help. Good luck, hope it works out.

You're going to have to do some research with this one. Is your blood pressure a problem here? If so, look at diets for preventing "pre-eclampsia." If your blood pressure is NOT an issue, my first thought is your LIVER. That is directly correlated to your platelet count. Look into diets to support your liver health. Get plenty of SLEEP! Take great care of yourself and let us know if it works!

I don't think there is a way to raise your platelet count. Long story short, my DD was diagnosed with an acute (not long lasting) disorder and her platelet count was soooo low that we had to be admitted to the hospital. She was given an emergency IV of some kind of plasma based product to boost her platelets... which it did but it was an unatural scary thing. Anyway, we had to blood test every 2 weeks for months to monitor the platelets.

So basically, I think if there was some way to boost platelet count the drs would know (we were seeing blood specialists) or I would have come across something in my exhaustive research.

Basically what I did was pump my DD with lots of 'super food' and did some energy work with her.

Do you know the reason for your low platelets.... how low are they?
