Breastfeeding Ad in Chicago

Thread Starter
I recently spotted a few, completely offensive, breastfeeding ads at a train platform in Chicago. Thought you all might be interested, I posted about them on my blog.

I still haven't thought of a good response. Any advice would be appreciated. For now, I am thinking of printing out a picture of me nursing in public, along with a picture of a dinner plate on a toilet, and the text, "Which is worse?" and posting it on the billboard. That way, while it may not influence the company, at least it will give passerbys a chance to think about what the ad is suggesting.

What do all of you ladies think of this?

I think that it's just an attempt to be provocative ... Chicago Now, as far as I can tell, is a Chicago blog / forum. The fact that they put up another one with a different message kind doesnt' indicate a "change of heart" to me but that this is a campaign to promote debates on their blog/forum. It's pretty strange to be sure.

I think they want people to go to their blog and find that post and tell that person to off.

If you think about it, it's actually kind of hilarious on a train platform where there are 1. no bathrooms and 2. no time to go to said bathrooms without missing the train. Talk about a perfect place for the "I'm fine, but if you'd be more comfortable going into a bathroom, I won't be offended by you leaving."

Goodness! What train platform was that at? It's been awhile since I've rode the CTA regularly but that would have majorly p'eed me off!

Um, if there were any bathrooms on CTA platforms, I'd surely not even set foot in them, let alone take my baby into one!

I agree with the pp who said it's about provocation. I think they're trying to get you to check out their site, no matter which side you're on. I did check it out and found a great article on there about public breastfeeding! I think the ads are just an ad campaign meant to get you mad and lure you in.

Check out the article...

Like merebella, I tried their website and found the article she quoted.
My guess would also be that it's supposed to be an eye-catcher to make you visit their blog.
Unfortunately, in this time and place there might still be a lot of people around to take this serious. I'm sure I would've been very upset by that ad!

Yes, it's supposed to be provacative and get you to visit their site. They have a bunch of ads all over the city on various hot button topics. I found the first ad by them startling but as I've seen more and more I read them less and less.
