Another Smell Question

I use mostly pfs but I have a few contour type flannel dipes that were homemade I believe and passed down to me unused. I have been using the biggeer size of these as nighttime dipes. The last two nights (I have used these for the last 4-5 nights, probably) her pee has smelled super strong of a fishy-type smell. I have been putting a peice of microfleece in her diaper at night as well as some earth's best rash ointment (just for protection at night, she just not have a rash. I checked the ingredients, no fish oil.)

Anyway, it is not just the diaper that stinks, so I don't think it is a washing issue or anything. Plus it would actually be the first time the dipes were used (they were prewashed). Night before last she leaked in the bed (with me). The smell was terribly strong on the sheets and my pjs... everything. It ran my DH out of the bed actually! But it does not seem to be just her pee either. This morning I took the smelly pee dipe off of her, then she peed on the changing pad... no smell. Nor does her pee smell like that in the day.

I have washed the first diaper this happened in as well as the sheets and the smell seems to have come out fine, even though it was really strong. Last night's diaper is sitting in the pail and I smell it everytime I go near.

Any ideas what is causing this????

BTW she is only 3 weeks, so it is not an issue of what she ate... But could it have something to do with my diet?

Since the dipes are new my only thought would be go one night w/out the diper cream maybe that & her urine are intermingling & causing the smell. Do you use the cream all the time or just at night? Does it stink every night?

It was gone a couple days and back last night. Not as strong, though. Not related to the cream, cause I skipped it last night. Very strange!!

I am still having this issue. Not every night. Hoping someone may know what it could be. Luckily it hasn't been as strong smelling as it was before, but it is still concerning.
Any ideas?

You might want to strip and/or boil the diapers. My first guess is that they may not be getting all the way clean, or have some buildup, and it's the pee hitting them and mixing with the buildup that may be causing the smell.

It started when the diapers were new. Doesn't do it everytime, just some nights only. I use soapnuts and have been happy with them. Don't think there would be a buildup issue.
