Solids questions/suggestions

Hi mamas! Hope you're all enjoying the holiday season .

DD will be 8-months-old next week. She is EBF and has never had a bottle. I started introducing solids (purees) when she was about 6 1/2-months-old but she didn't show much interest. I still offer every now and then, but don't push the issue.

As she gets older, what kinds of foods would be good to offer other than purees? I feel like at this stage it's not really necessary, and she does have 6 teeth (2 bottom/4 top).

And I must confess, I am a vegetarian and I am the world's pickiest veggie eater ! So I really need help in the veggie suggestion department! Finger foods, smoothies, snacks, anything you have success with, I would really appreciate it!

I found myself getting a little overwhelmed with books, and I know I shouldn't because it's just food. I also know I should stop listening to my mother who says I'm going to run into problems because I'm waiting too long to get DD going with food . When did your LO's become interested in solid food?

TIA!!!

My son is about the same age, so I don't have much more experience than you - but I can tell you what we are doing!
He mostly gets purees too, but I have also given him cut up pieces of pear (no skin) and avocado on his highchair tray. They are slippery, but once he gets them, he likes to feed himself. This is very messy, though! He also likes o cereal (like Cheerios, but organic). My thought is that we will next try any food he likes in puree form, but offer it "whole" or cut up instead. It would still need to be softened, if necessary.
I have also given him raw apple pieces in a mesh teether, but he doesn't seem to enjoy the texture of the mesh in his mouth. But, maybe you would have more luck!
I like your smoothie idea - may have to use that one here.
I hope more experienced Moms reply - I could use some ideas too!

I just noticed there is another, very similar post called "need more food ideas for 7-8 month dd" - it has lots of good ideas!

My ds has been a solids lover for a while now, but we never really did purees. I noticed that when I'd try to give him something purreed, he just wasn't really into it. But when I gave him something he could feed himself, look out!

We pretty much feed ds anything we eat (with the exception of honey and nut butters). I do cut it into bite sized pieces or strips he can hold on to.
