My cat is peeing on dd's new bed...ugh, what to do???

Dd finally moved to her own room and got a new bed, which is all very exciting for her (but less exciting when it is repeatedly peed on). The bed came from a friend who has dogs, and I suspect our cat is trying to claim it as her own, or something like that. Or maybe she's just doing it because it's new. Regardless, if anyone has any ideas on how to stop this behavior I would really appreciate it, because the bed is here to stay!

TIA, and my cat will thank you also because for right now she is banned from being indoors...

Shut your dd's door and dont allow the cat in there. Other than that you prolly cant stop it.

Seriously, you don't think there's anything we could do?

We tried keeping the door shut, but it was like the cat was staking out the room...the second the door was open, she would zip in and pee on the bed.

Having dealt with an issue very similar to this and trying everything the only answer was keeping the cat out. She now has only one room she can be in but she is 15 years old and has other issues now as well.

Hyper vigilance when you open the door is about all you can do. Covering the bed with plastic when not in use will at least keep it from getting on the mattress and sheets.

I'd wash all the bedding in OdoBan, and then place a bowl of dry food on the spot where the cat usually pees until the habit is broken. (Most cats don't want to eliminate by food.) Yeah, weird to have cat food on the bed, but better than cat pee.

I just kicked out 3 cats because one was peeing on the carpet. You can spray the bed with an enzyme cleaner first and then something to deter the cat like tea tree oil or scat(guessing the name).

Could try removing the bed and seeing if she still pees in the room.

I love my cats but went through this years ago with one cat peeing up an entire house.Ruined the house. I finally gave in and had it killed. It took years before I could get more cats, and a long time to get close to them. Now again I am faced with the pee dilema in a new house.I have read it is a very common problem.

If you really want the cat inside and removing the bed will stop the peeing then go that route.Consider yourself lucky if it is only the bed the cat pees on. I love cats but will never get another once my current 3 are gone.Best wishes!
