Greetings from Germany/Switzerland

Hi everyone (Guten Tag & Gruezi)
I am new to these forums but have been quite active on the WTE site since I found out I was pregnant. I feel like I don't really fit in there as I am generally not very "main stream" and more on the side of "granola head tree hugger" A friend of mine is also here and seems this place would probably be better suited for me.
I am from Ottawa Canada but have been living near Frankfurt in Germany for 2 years. My boyfriend is Swiss and I will be moving to Chur after we get married later this month.
This is my first pregnancy and looking forward to meeting nice people here!
I've have 2 ultrasounds done in Switzerland and so far our little baby boy appears to be developing quite well and is VERY active... My due date is
April 6, 2010. Later today will be my first ever baby shower (kinda nervous and excited)
Anyone else a or living in Germany or Switzerland? Let me know
LG Jennifer

Hello and welcome to MDC!

I'm German but I live near Shanghai right now, so that doesn't really help you... There is a "find your tribe" thread you can check out for people in your geographical area.

oceane -> Hey super! wo wohnst du? Ich bin bei Frankfurt... (Hey super! Where do you live? I am near Frankfurt)

proudmomof4 -> Danke! I've already been there and looks are though it isn't too active in the "Germany" tribe area and Switzerland is literally non-existant... unfortunately

BaBaBa -> Haha, not a chance!! Ottawa winter was a damn good reason to leave... in 2007 during your record snowfall of over 400cm snow, i saw snow once and that was in April. I just kept thinking "Thank goodness I'm here and not there"

To everyone else... thank you for the welcome and good wishes...

Hi! I just joined too. Be glad that you are the way you are already. I definitely went through my pregnancy thinking that except for having a natural childbirth and breastfeeding, I would be totally mainstream. Changing your parenting style after the baby is born can lead to some regrets, some family resistant, etc.

Welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy and upcoming marriage!
I lived in Germany for almost 6 years - in Leipzig and then Saarbrucken. Two of my children were born in Germany, one in each city!

Germany is actually a great place to be pregnant and have a baby. Midwifery care is the norm, natural birth and home birth are accepted and all pregnancy care, birth and postnatal care is covered by insurance. It is so easy to find quality wooden toys, organic food, cloth diapers etc. Also, being in Frankfurt I bet you would find a good La Leche League group (good to go at least a couple of times while you re pregnant to meet other mothers and have any breastfeeding questions answered)

oh, I just realized you said you were moving to Chur soon. I don't know much about preg and parenting in Switzerland, sorry
