Help!

All of this information is soooo overwhelming. I find myself just wanting to do disposables!

Is there a single book or resource you'd recommend for new parents wanting to CD?

It is totally overwelming at first. So many options!

Basically you need something absorbant & something outside of that that is water resistant.

The simplest options would be to use flats or prefolds inside of a cover (lots of options but they all work)

If you want something easier to use (but arguably more work for cleaning) you would go with a pocket diaper or all-in-one. The aio's work very similar to a disposable for use. The pockets are similar but you have to add the absorbant part (stuff it into the pocket).

There are of course variations on all of it & so many brands. Keep reading, it does get clearer. I found it easiest when I decided that cheap was my goal. I made prefolds & some wool covers (which I ended up not liking) & was given some pul covers.

I think it's best to see them in person so you can actually touch them & try them on a doll or bear or something. Do you have a friend/family member that CD's nearby? Or see if there's an online store or even a B&M store that carries CD's closeby so you can get a test run. OR some sites offer a "trial pack" or something so you can order them & try them out before buying a large number of them.

Just an idea!

Another option is to look on your local Craigslist for used items. I've seen complete stashes as well as individual items being sold for next to nothing on Craigslist. That way, you can try out a few different kinds before deciding on what style to go with.

I learned a lot from:

www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com
and

I loved greenmountian diapers...google them....she's answer's everything in her website. With tons of pictures. I've always ordered all my cloth from there. Also Crickets diapers are great for a first time cloth diapering mama.

Ditto what the pp said about green mountain. I was totally overwhelmed at first too, but thankfully, I have lots of momma friends IRL who cloth diaper. I just stuck with the simplest...prefolds and covers. I just purchased two fleece pockets diapers for overnight use, but they are pretty pricey and I don't mind more frequent changes during the day using prefolds.
