choice of fabric against skin

I'm just curious as to synthetic vs natural fabrics against baby's skin.

If you are using a fleece lined pocket then you have a synthetic fabric against your baby's skin but it wicks moisture away so they are not feeling too wet.

If you use a cotton/hemp/bamboo prefold/fitted/lined diaper then you have a natural fabric against your baby's skin but once they pee they will have wet against their skin also. Ideally we would change our child every time they pee so they are not in a wet diaper but this is not always possible when in the car or out and about.

So, I'm just wondering what do you think is better - synthetic that wicks moisture or natural that does not?

I like the wicking fabrics but my LO is not sensitive to synthetics.

I prefer natural fabrics. 1) because they are natural and I'm crunchy and feel like it will help my LO's future as well as their LO's future & so on. 2) I like the "feel the wetness" because my 1yo knows when he has peed and is now learning to use the potty. 3) did I mention I'm crunchy? lol

Hmm. I try to go with natural fibers whenever possible, but have some of both kinds. Neither the synthetic nor the wetness seems to bother either boy, so it's more just eh preference of preferring natural stuff. : )

I will say I often use a fleece liner at night with my 4 mo because I like to think itw ill help him sleep more if he doesn't feel wet. Not sure it really helps, but I'll take any help I can get.

I prefer Natural, specifically cotton. The one time I used fleece liners my son broke out into a major rash that disappeared when we stopped using them.

I also prefer natural fibers against their skin. It also seems easier to clean. Sometimes, fleece can hold stink.

I honestly dont understand the 'wicking' everyone talks about. The synthetics feel so clammy I always find it hard to tell if she's wet or not (ie. it always feels wet because her skin cant breathe). And then when it is wet, its wet AND clammy. Whereas with the natural fibres its just wet. We have quite a few synthetic brands but I am definitely avoiding buying them in future. We will continue to use the ones we have til they die, but Im now putting cotton velour liners in so that is against her skin.

I also buy mostly organic cotton clothing for my kids, and it didnt even occur to me what an oxymoron it was since I was putting synthetics in the most delicate area.....took til my second baby to twig on that one Can I blame extended pregnancy brain?

Both of my daughters' skin has done equally well in both synthetic and natural fabrics. I really think this is a matter of personal, aesthetic preference, unless your baby's skin really does have a reaction to one or the other, which some babies do.

I prefer natural fibers, but I'm not totally anti-synthetic any more.
