7mo shudder/shivering (X posted in Vaccinations)

Every once in a while 7mo DS will shudder or shiver. It is random, but happens at least once a day as of lately. DH didn't believe me/ thought it might have been because he was cold, but I was over at my moms house today and he did it while she was holding him and was like "oh, what was that?" I asked her if she thought it might be a tick of some sort and she said no, it seemed too slow (if that makes sense). My Mom has experience with working with children with special needs, so most of the time she knows her stuff.

DS has hit all of his milestones to date (sitting unassisted, laughing, babbling, eye contact etc...)

He has had two shots of Pentacel, one at 2 months and the other at 6 months.

I do not remember him shuddering/shivering before 6 months.

Should I be worried, because I am freaking out...Does anyone else have experience with this????

Going to X post in the vaccinations forum...

My boys always did that at around 6 months till about 2 years - they did it when they peed. I have no idea why - almost like the suddenly super-warm diaper gave them the chills.

ETA: In fact, I was just holding my 8 month old a bit ago and the exact same thing happened. He peed, I felt his bottom get all warm, then he shuddered.

Thanks, this makes me feel a bit better and smile because it could be something as small as peeing! I'll check his diaper next time he does it, at first I thought It was because he was trying to poo, but that didn't seem to be the case...

I've never noticed ds doing it but I know I often will get a random shiver - I can't imagine this would be much different.

My 4.5 mo. old does this too! I talked to the ped who said to chart these head tremor/shivers. She does it +/- 1-2x/day. Ped said she's seen this in other normal babies and its often an immature neurological system. DD just started maybe 2-3 weeks ago.
Ped consulted with a neuorogist who will determine after a couple wks of charting whether to investigate further.
DD has had only 1 rotavirus vax & Ive been thinking thank God I didnt vax because I would be worried that caused it too!
I know there is an age difference between our LOs but hopefully the fact that this is often a normal neurological phenomenon and that it happens to almost unvaxed kids too can be reassuring!
Plus I like the its just pee idea!
Will watch to see others experiences too, though, thanks for starting the thread!

Check out this, too.

I even asked hubby today and he said sometimes he still shivers when HE pees! Ha!

And the neurological thing may very well be it, too, which he'll grow out of if that's it. So, OP, I wouldn't worry.

I believe my mama refers to that motion as a "piss shiver".

Yeah, my son and my husband both have the pee shiver.

DD does this when she pees too. I thought it was the case and then DH was carrying her naked to the bath tub and she peed on him and shivered - so that confirmed it. The thought never even crossed my mind until DD shivered in front of my SIL and she asked her if she peed. Then I realized I do it still sometimes. Nothing to be concerned about - though it did concern me until I knew what it was too. :-)

Too funny, this is what my MIL called it too when I told her about it! Hmmmm this is a more widely known thing than I thought... one more of those little, tiny things that no one tells you about when you have a babe I guess

I was just about to mention the "pee shiver." Science isn't sure why it happens...but it's really common

Haha, yes! When my first baby did this, I freaked out. We scheduled her an appointment with a neurologist and all that.

My second baby didn't get the pee shiver.

My 3-month-old now pee shivers constantly. Different neurological systems = different reactions. I think it's cute. Sometimes he even makes a noise when he it does it (a kind of brr noise).
