UC TV segment

Take a few deep breaths first. Talk about one-sided. Sheesh.

Plus both the ending quote on the web site, and the anchor guy's ending statement were wrong. The article says less than 1% of births take place at home (I believe it's now between 1 and 2%, isn't it?). And the anchor man quotes her as saying that less than 1% of home deliveries are unassisted. From the research I've done, it's much higher. In the 4 states I checked - Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming and Florida, nearly 30% of homebirths are reported as being unassisted. This may not be entirely accurate, as some couples claim a birth was unassisted if midwife assisted birth is illegal in their state. On the other hand, if a couple is nervous about reporting a UC, they may have a midwife sign the BC. So it's a hard figure to pin down. In any case, I'm sure the figure is higher than 1%.

How sad. That poor mom under the impression that her labor and delivery is being improved by constant monitoring and 'pain control', as if it would be impossible to cope in a healthy manner without those things.

even sadder that the report felt the need to perpetuate that myth rather than give unbiased data. they talked to one hospital-birther and one ob? that's like doing a study on marital sex and talking to one priest and one 8 year old...

!!!

I see this in so many aspects of current event reporting. Why oh why cant they deliver honest and accurate reporting. I am not saying everyone has to jump in and agree! Just offer all the information about both sides of the coin and let people be trusted enough to make their own informed choice without being constantly judged or belittled. Ugh!!

So true. This is probably one of the most awful reports I have seen. The words Sheer stupidty come to mind.

What a short, boring, pointless article

"I think you can really have the kind of birth experience you want as long as you have an open dialogue with your obstetrician, if there is not a good fit there, than maybe you should look for one who is more accommodating."
If only everyone were so lucky to have those options.
