Why the sleep regression in my 11.5 mo. old?

Our little man had been waking only to nurse 1-2 times a night, then going immediately back to sleep in the crib in his own - I could live with that. (DH was waking him up constantly, so we moved him to the crib without incident when he was 6 months old.)

Now, he panics when I put him back in the crib, asleep or not. He won't fall asleep if I rub his back, just starts talking and wiggling. He'll sometimes fall back asleep in my arms, only to wake when I set him down. He gets very upset when I leave the room for a few minutes and shows no signs of calming down. And I just can't let him CIO. Every night for 2 weeks, I have been up with him for 2 hours straight, in addition to his other nursings (he still won't eat many solids during the day). I don't think it is anything that he is eating because I am already on a restricted diet (no wheat, no dairy) and haven't introduced anything new. He might be getting his molars, but could that really be the cause of this major decline in his sleeping ability? Why is he suddenly getting so upset when it is time to go back to sleep? I am stumped over how to get through this one.

My Lo has been doing something similar. When we lay down, the wrestling match ensues! She just wants to get up and crawl and explore.. sleep is not on her agenda.

Is your lo starting to walk? Or meeting some other milestone?

I think, for our DD, it's just that she is so intent on exploring and learning and seeing/touching/tasting everything, that she fights going to sleep.

Good luck, I hope you get it figured out soon.. and remember, this too shall pass!

this is just the beginning. his sleep patterns will change over time. till usually about 3 or 4 years old.

it usually happens during big changes. teething, burst of language, walking, imagination taking off, irrational fears.

Well, he did start crawling a couple of weeks ago and is now already pulling up on everything! Just started that yesterday. Hopefully that's to blame! Thanks ladies!

our ds is one tomorrow and trying to walk. I completely understand the regression issue you're having! he wakes in a panic until he crawls into bed with us. we're exhausted!

This is my experience lately, too! DS turned 1 last week, and the end is not in sight. He just popped his first molar yesterday or today, and I think that has a lot to do with it. We've been dealing with the 2 hour "mini-day" in the middle of the night for a couple of months now, 3 or so times a week. Last night, he was up every hour to 2 hours, and he kept waking as I'd put him back to bed, and wouldn't go to sleep again without nursing, except then he refused to nurse.
