Recommendations for a good first walking shoe?

Hi mamas,

My DS is starting to take his first steps. He has a pair of those light suede moccasin type shoes to walk around the house in, but I want to get him a pair that is more durable and that he will be able to walk around in outside. They need to be warm enough to keep his feet toasty in the early spring, but also light and flexible so that he doesn't have a harder time walking.

Any ideas?

Maybe something like this:

Light and cloth, but weather-protecting. StrideRites are so expensive though!

Even better, check out Robeez.com. They have amazing shoes just for babies learning to walk. I got my daughter a pair when she was 10 months old and she wore those things every season of the year until they were so worn out you couldn't tell they were pink anymore.

If you want something with a non-skid sole, check out Pedoodles.

I have a pair saved for dd2; right now, she's in Robeez (8 mo old and cruising - I'm expecting first steps within a month).

I went to Stride Rite, where they measured DS's foot, for free, and showed me their shoes, though they are too pricey for me! The shoes they have for beginning walkers are REALLY flexible, which is what they need.

I've heard a rumor that Stride Rite & Payless have a contract, and that Payless's infant shoes are really great. However, I tried them out in store, and they're pretty stiff on bottom, and when I put them on DS's feet, he shook his feet like he wanted to get those things off! I think they're too stiff for him to bend them, and he's just learning to walk. Perhaps when he's a better walker, I'll get them for him.

I wound up buying robeez for him. I got them at a consignment shop for $2.50, and he didn't do that kicking them off his feet thing, since they're so flexible, like heavy duty socks!

Target has a same type of shoe as the Robeez ones only they're $12.99 instead of close to $30. Seem to be the same thing too. I love them.
