so i woke up this morning to find that during the night a mouse had run amuck in the kitchen drawers, chewing my wooden spoons and pooping everywhere. i've emptied everything out, threw out the ruined things, washing the ok ones, and cleaned and relined the drawers with new contact paper. now what? how can i get rid of this thing and the others surely in our walls?

There is the NFL answer of trapping them and setting them free in the outdoors. Then there is my answer of snap traps and at least six.

And if you have a holey house like I do, setting them free is not an option. Do you have a cat?

or can you borrow a good mousing cat from a friend or neighbor for a few days? usually thats all it takes to scare them off.
patch any holes you find with steel wool, aluminum foil and putty so they cant chew back through, then pray.

Oh yuck I hate mice. We had a mouse this summer and my DH finally got rid of it with a snap trap. Then we had to wash so.much.stuff. I said that if we ever had another one we would move.

Then we had mouse poop again before Thanksgiving and my DH got out the traps. We didn't catch anything but there wasn't any new signs of the mouse. We were lazy about cleaning it all up and on Friday I got home and the garbage bag needed changing. When I looked under the sink I saw that the trap was upside down and there was a dark body with a tail. I ran screaming out of the kitchen to my DH and DS who were laughing hysterically. I started yelling 'Is it real?'. It wasn't a mouse it was a SOCK MOUSE WITH A SHOELACE TAIL.

I am getting annoyed all over again telling the story . He just loves to play jokes.

Go pick yourself up a box of mint tea. Read the ingredients, you want something that is just mint, nothing else. Put a tea bag in every drawer. Change them every 6 months or so. I had to wash everything in the drawers a few years back and was so grossed out - but I put the mint in there and haven't had to deal with it since.

Of course, female cats are also a good idea (females are more likely to mouse).
