Exhausted new mama, G/V questions...

So we've been using the Nystatin for a week, still have colonized patches in his little mouth. My nipples are feeling better, however. I did buy some Gentian Violet (for $10! I don't know where you all found it for $2!) yesterday. Just got up the nerve to use it about an hour ago. I swabbed his whole mouth with just one Q-Tip dipped in the G/V - the stuff spreads like crazy, so every bit of the inside of his mouth is now deep purple. It makes me horribly sad. He hated the taste of it, shuddered and threw up a little (more than spit-up, less than projectile).

The pediatric nurse told me to paint his mouth, then wait an hour before nursing. So it's been almost an hour now. Should I also be painting my nipples, or is that overkill? I don't want to overdose him!

Can I keep using the Nystatin with the G/V, or just use the G/V for now?

Should I put it on his yeast-y diaper rash as well? I don't really care if my prefolds end up stained purple, so saving my diapers is a non-issue. Again, just don't want to overdose his tiny little system.

And I've read about allergic reactions, what should I be watching him for?

I think that the GV in his mouth will get on your nipples, so I wouldn't do both. I think GV might be too harsh for diaper rash. When my kids had persistent diaper rash, I had luck with using an Lotrimin or similar anti fungal cream then a layer of zinc oxide to keep the anti fungal really on there.

I agree that the gv in his mouth should be fine.. it will work its way to your nipples
