Stuffing for teething doll?

I want to try to make a doll like this: http://www.ontwerpt.nu/vo/butterflydoll.htm

What would be good to stuff it with? I want it to be safe to chew/suck on, but something that will also survive frequent washing. Ideas?

TIA!

I'd look for 100% cotton batting

Thank you! And nothing weird will happen to it when it gets washed? Should I somehow wash it first?

Probably too late on this (guessing you sewed it up already), but when I sew up these teething dolls I use wool roving. The doll is then machine washable on cold using the gentle cycle and can be air dried.

I imagine a cotton batting/stuffing would similarly be machine washable on cold.

Thanks! With the holidays, this project got put off. I'll hopefully get to it soon!

Do you even need to stuff it? When I've made dolls like this, I don't stuff them at all. They are like a little blanket doll.

Wool is naturally flame retarding as it self extinguishes when removed from the flame source. It is also naturally anti-microbial and resistant to mold and mites.

It can hold 30% of its weight in water before it feels wet
