ambidextrous mittens?

I want to knit mittens but I want them to be like socks... to not have a left and a right. My plan is to knit at least 3 but more likely more identical mittens that can be paired up any which way so that if one (or more) are lost, a pair can still be made. If the pattern had a left and a right version then I'm too likely to end up with two right handed mittens or two left handed mittens.

Anyone have a favorite pattern that fits this description? I need it to fit a 5-6 year old child.

This one, the left and right only matter if you put a pattern on the back of the hand. If they are plain, left and right are interchangeable.

These ones have instructions for left and right mittens but I've found that it's hard to tell the difference and they can be worn comfortable on either hand.

These ones are toddler mittens but you might be able to scale them up.

I made these felted mittens for my DS and they turned out well. Pattern in Living Crafts magazine.

Thanks! I have one ds in 1st and another in kindergarten and I wanted some gloves that would perhaps fit both and put up with the potential of getting left behind at school. I'm excited to get knitting.

Problem now... I have to decide on one pattern to make or else I still won't be able to mix and match.
