she is 9 months old and beginning to really enjoy feeding herself, but I'm running out of ideas! today she has had rice cakes with hummus for lunch (tried her with cucumber, but it just ends up on the floor). I give her sticks of veg a lot and plenty of fruit (banana, cooked apple, apricot, blueberries, dates, melon etc.). Is it okay to try her with cheese yet, and egg, or is it too early? Any other suggestions? We are vegetarian. I do spoon feed her too, she has oatibix made with ricemilk for breakfast and I will give her yogurt too. Thanks.

Here's my opinion:
1) Eggs: yolk yes, whites not until 1 year old (for allergy reasons) We have given scrambled egg yolk and hard boiled egg yolk to our nearly eight-month old since he was just over 7 months of age. From what I hear, a scrambled yolk still includes some whites because it is impossible to completely separate a raw egg. I usually hard-boil them and give him the yolk in small pieces.
2) Cheese: Was advised by my ped. to start both yogurt and cheese at SIX months, though most sources suggest 8 months. We split the difference and did 7 months. He is doing fine with both.
My babe also loves hummus, though we make our own with olive oil rather than tahini because sesame is an allergen (and we have lots of food allergies in the family.)
Enjoy!
