Why are DS's eyes so red and swollen??

So this has been happening for a while now...probably a year. I think as I type this I might have the answer but I'm looking for some input. DS's eyes were really itchy last night before he went to bed. He woke up this morning and they were really, really bad...Red, swollen almost shut and still itchy. We thought it was the cats earlier this year but we moved and the cats have been strictly outdoor cats at the new home. It happens a lot less these days but it still happens...today is the worst I've seen him in a long while. I'm beginning to suspect almonds to be honest. We had his birthday yesterday and I made a dish of sliced apples with agave, cinnamon and slivered almonds. He LOVED it and ate it all day. I'm just curious...can anyone else give me their experience with nut allergies? I was careful not to give him any nuts until he was almost three. To add, we are a vegan household so there's no dairy involved. I am confident it's not soy because he's been doing soy for a long time with no problems and he has it on a daily basis.

Here's a couple of pictures of what he looks like today...they don't really do justice to how red under his eyes is:

This is what he normally looks like:

Actually, now that I look...his face seems a bit swollen too.

They are called Allergy Shiners. My son gets them when he is sick and I get them when my allergies are bothering me.

Noah doesn't get them when he's sick but he gets a few little pimples/rashiness on his face. This seems to be from an allergic reaction of sorts. He had some eczema issues when he was young but that was when he was nursing and I was still vegetarian and had dairy. That stopped when I went vegan. What do you do to relieve the redness and swelling...anything?

gentle bump...anyone? What do you do for this aside from the obvious of figuring out what causes it and remove the culprit? We're trying to do that!

you could do antihistamines, but that just masks the reaction. The key is finding out the cause. Environmental allergy tests might help? Though it could also be food (allergy or intolerance).

My DS has the same thing going on. Did you ever figure out what the problem was?
