Does anyone else worry about the long-term affect the television show will have on the kids' lives? They all seem really grounded (although I haven't seen some of the more recent episodes), and I would hate to see anything bad happen to them.

I don't mean to speculate, just wondering about the long-term consequence of exposing yourself and your family to the public so intimately....

Can someone tell me what happened on the episode where there was some type of fire? I missed that...

It was a training fire. The Duggar boys got to go to a fire training day.

I don't think it will really be a problem for them. JB and M work very hard to teach them strong morals, and they really aren't that recognizable to the general public when they aren't all out together. As the older children go out and make their own lives, I am sure they will be able to control their exposure as Josh and Anna have.

I am going to reopen this and am asking one last time that you limit discussion ONLY to what is on the Duggar's television show on TLC. MDC no longer hosts celebrity news, gossip, or speculation. You may think it's petty, you may think it's stupid, but it's a slippery slope from Michelle Duggar's gallstones and emergency c-section to Britney's liposuction or the latest Gosselin saga, and we're just. not. hosting. that.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. I am really not trying to be mean; I am trying to keep this thread on the boards. I promise.

I like the Bates family too. I like it when the two families are together.

Have there been any previews for today's show? I really want to see the Bates reno, but with everything else, I wonder if they will feel pressured to address all of that.

Do they ever show Mrs. Wilson?

Mamas, I know it's hard and I knew reality shows really blur the line. The only reason there's Duggar talk at all on MDC is because they have a show, so it's just important to stick to that. I'm sorry for having to take a hard line on it.

Last night's show was so great! First of all it just looked like they were having a ton of fun. Took me back to my childhood. I'm so sad we don't have a community like that, with a gazillion children for my kids to play with, way out in the country.

I like the Duggars, but the Bateses have "something" about them that really draws me in. I'm not sure what it is. The guy that was helping them out with the house talked about how they take "Godliness" seriously, and I think I know what he meant. The way they relate to each other is so natural, including the bigger kids with the little kids. It totally gives me goosebumps to see how those big teenage boys can go from wrestling each other to kindly helping a little sibling. I hope my boys are like that.

And the bluegrass, oh, the bluegrass. That was just beautiful.

I like how the Bates like to go in pairs. Like Zak and Micheala are both in the volunteer Firefighters. And their 2nd oldest boy I think Lawson? He's so funny. "I have to stay outside for legal and safety reasons" too funny.

I like how the families all relate to each other. I think the do really show a generosity of spirit that I wish more people had.

i thought it was a good episode too..

although i admit i was thinking, man id be annoyed if someone gave me a mothers day gift that totally disrupted my life for 6+ months. i mean, it is totally awesome that theyre getting their house renovated, and it looks like its coming along great. but i was listening to mrs bates talk about how their living space kept getting smaller and smaller with moving stuff all around, and ending up in a hotel and all of that, and it just seems awful

I have to say I was quite amazed at the bluegrass playing. Probably easily impressed because my musical skills are non existant but WOW they were going fast. The Bates house remodel kind of reminds me of a mini Duggar house. The fronts look very similar to me.

I'm now somewhat afraid to post, for fear of being banned.

But I must say, that between Duggar episodes and The Blind Side, I've really grown to love the south. Although I've only visited there twice (Louisiana and Alabama), I think I'd like to stay there a while if the opportunity arises. OH, and I'd really like to go to a drive-through safari like one of the episodes showed. I make mental notes of all the places they visit (Creation Science museum!) for my next trip to the south. I can't wait!
