Recommendations for free online piano lessons for children?

I realize that's a tall order We were gifted/blessed with a free piano this weekend. It's so awesome and looks beautiful!

As a little girl, I always wanted to learn piano but A. we didn't have one and B. we couldn't afford lessons. Well I took care of A but B is still a challenge.

Does anyone know where I can find free piano lessons online? I really want us all to learn as a family

Thanks

Suggestion

Wow! it's awesome that you got one. Here's a site that I can refer to you. It is really helpful for you I say and you can spend it at home.

I know it will be helpful.

I'm a piano teacher so you can disregard my opinion as biased if you so choose.

If your goal is to learn how to play certain songs (usually dictated by the lesson), the online thing will work. If you want to learn to really play the piano and eventually be able to sit down with any music and play it, you need to have one on one interaction with a teacher who can correct your mistakes and make sure you understand certain concepts. Just learning to play songs is fine, you just need to be aware that that's what you'll get in an online course. I'm able to tailor lessons to the student's strengths and weaknesses - if he's struggling, I can slow down. And I've never had a student who understood everything the first time it was explained. Online courses are one size fits all and that doesn't usually work. I also think the additional benefits of piano lessons (self-discipline, confidence, etc) are lost when you follow a less traditional method of teaching. I understand cost of lessons is an issue, but maybe you can work out a barter system with a teacher or something. Just my $.02.

I agree. You really get what you pay for with music. Is this the first instrument for all of you? If so I'd really, really suggest a teacher, at least to get started.

Maybe you could find a teacher that would agree to every other week and be half the cost or something? I also think that the input from a knowledgeable instructor is really important. However, maybe you guys could all prep yourselves first by learning things like note reading, and which keys are which notes etc. before going to a teacher. That way, you aren't paying for her to teach things that don't really NEED the professional. You might find a teacher that would give you a list of things to learn on your own.

Also, if the piano was recently moved to you home, which I assume, it's important to have it tuned so that you and your children's playing begins to train your ear, and not un-train it.
