chocolate for one year old?

DS is turning one tomorrow!

Anyways I want to make him a cake, and I was thinking a monkey...so can I make the brown icing chocolate, or should I be using coloring and avoiding the chocolate?

He has had tiny bites of chocolate cake and such before and never had a problem at all...is the only reason to wait allergies or is it something else? We don't have any food allergies in either of our families and DS hasn't shown any so far (though he hasn't had nuts or any seafood yet)

Happy Birthday!

I am sure that it would be fine to use chocolate icing, esp if he has had chocolate in the past.

But, FWIW, we gave DD an Oreo cake for her first birthday and she promptly puked it up an hour later. She is not allergic to chocolate. I think it was probably due to all the sugar and excitement.

Have fun

If there's no food allergy in your family, you're probably fine. The only reasons for withholding chocolate are allergic (and too much sugar isn't great for them, but on a special occasion, it probably won't hurt).
