Need advice on fasting

Hi:

I want to participate in our faith community's Fast for Copenhagen. The holy grail, so to speak, would be to fast until Saturday. NOt sure if I can do that, but people are invited to fast as long/much as they feel they can.

I am quite thin and a little prone to low blood sugar. No medical conditions, though and I'm in good shape.

I have a juicer, so I was thinking of a juice fast.

Any advice or BTDT? My only real concern is that I might pass out. Is this likely? If I fast, can I continue my usual activities, maybe including my Tae Kwon Do class?

My experience from fasting comes from two types of fasts:

12 or 24 hours "total" fasts: no water, no nothin'.

a 3 day, water only fast.

There are a lot of different types of fasts you could do. Obviously it isn't safe to do a "total fast" for 5 days. It would be very very difficult to do a water fast for 5 days, but doable. Healthy, I don't know. I do know that there is no way I could have done my 3 day water only fast in a normal life situation (doing dishes, playing with the kids, going to work, whatever.). It only was possible in the out of day to day life, intensely focused spiritual expeirience that was my vision quest. could I do it on a spiritual retreat with other people and normal interactions, I'm not sure.

I would say a juice fast might work. Some other sort of fast might work as well.

Regardless of what type of fast you do, if you are fasting for a spiritual reason, I would highly recommend spending as much of that time as possible in a spiritual time/place. Praying with others, actively praying alone, or sitting out alone on a mountaintop, fasting can really be spiritually incredibly powerful. Fasting while going about your daily business just sucks. All you can think about is food and how you can't have any.

(I have no experience with juice fasts or other fasts this may not be the case with them.)

gl mama.
