Potty training a young toddler

I did part time ec with my son and he always peed in the potty a few times a day but wet his diaper a lot too. After he learned how to walk he wouldn't pee on the potty anymore. I would offer every few days or so. Recently he is peeing on the potty again a few times a day and can say psss when I ask him if he has to pee or when he sits on the potty. I'm noticing that he can actually hold his pee for longer instead of peeing a little bit constantly.

Has any one done any kind of gentle potty training with a young toddler. I did a gentle 3 day method with my dd that worked well and I am wondering if I can do some gentle training with my ds. Has anyone potty trained a young toddler? He is 14 months.

DS had a sensitive period for potty training around 15 months, but for a variety of reasons we didn't follow through enough and lost our window of opportunity. We ended up just going cold turkey to underwear at 23 months, and he did awesome! I would recommend the same with your DS. If it isn't working out, you can always try again in a few weeks/months.

DS is 19 months old and started showing signs of being ready for potty training a couple months ago. We jumped on it...I bought a small potty for him to use, and we started gently encouraging him to sit on it before his nightly bath (a guaranteed time for pee-pee!).

We've worked up to him sitting on it a few times a day, but we're not pushing it at all, so I'm not sure how long it will be until he's fully potty trained.

Keep doing what you're doing! We EC'd DS starting at 8 months and would put him in a diaper when going out and always have the potty in the car to give him opportunities to go while we were out. At 18 months, I decided to just stop putting diapers on him, I realized he would go in a diaper if he had one on but when he didn't have one on, he would go in the potty. We also taught him that he could pee standing up and that makes life so much easier when we're not at home and he has to use a public restroom! Plus he thinks it's really fun! I just constantly remind him "no pee pee in your pants! Do you need to go potty?" He'll tell me yes or no.

I say just be relaxed about it and keep offering the potty. Getting him to go sometimes is better than not at all so try not to rush it, you'll know when he's ready to really go full force with the training.
