Encouraging supply while pregnant

Hi Mamas

DD is 5mo and though I am not pregnant right now, we want our first 2 kids to be somewhere between 18-24 mo apart. I am realizing that this means I will probably go through the first trimester with DC #2 while DD is less than a year. I want to do CLW and let her nurse as long as she wants to but I am even more stubborn that I don't want to do something (like get pregnant) that could cause her to get frustrated and wean before she's even 1.

Can you take any supplements (ie. fenugreek, mama's milk tea etc... ) while pregnant to encourage the milk to stay?

Is it possible my milk would dry up even if DD was 9-12mo?

Am I crazy?

You can't take fenugreek or mother's milk tea during pregnancy. There's also nothing you can take that is proven to increase supply during pregnancy. Pregnancy hormones just kind of take over.

I would encourage you to read Adventures in Tandem Nursing before getting pregnant again.

My personal experience is that my 14 mo DD is very upset with my sudden drop in supply that started around 4 weeks pregnant. This is the experience for every woman, but it's also not at all uncommon.

If I were going to try to get pregnant before a baby was a year old, I would want to be sure that they were really good about eating a wide variety of solids so that I wouldn't have to worry about supplementing with formula or having to try to find a bm donor.
