is it diaper rash

My 5.5 mo DS skin around his anus is really red and sore. He's getting over diarrhea and doing much better, but now has a sore hiney, but only on this area. Is this diaper rash? It looks kind of blistery. If so, what could help healing? Frank question, but do babies usually have a little redness around ther anuses ... naturally? Just wondering.

A red ring around the anus is a classic sign of allergy. Has he recently started solids? Has your diet changed? I would try eliminating allergens from your diet (assuming you are bfing) and see if that helps.

No, not on solids yet. Yes EBF. Do you mean ANY sign of red around the opening? He's always had that, but not actual soreness til now I assumed b/c of diarrhea. I did start him on pro-biotics recently to help reduce diarrhea and that definitely has helped, but now you've got me wondering if this has caused the soreness. It was UDO infant probiotics. I haven't changed my diet and am gluten free due to my own gluten problems. I've limited milk/dairy due to Ds's spitting up, but still have a little in my tea 3xs a day, and maybe one piece of cheese. I'll eliminate all dairy now to see. What do you think about Pro-b being culprit though?
