Sing, Spell, Read & Write: Kindy Combo Kit or Not??

Dh and I are a little confused and I was hoping someone who has this program already could help explain a little.

We're pulling ds out of public school in a few weeks. We're going to use SSRW which I know he'll love. He's currently in kindergarten, he's not reading yet but he knows his letters and the sounds they make. When I prompt him he can sound out a few basic words and he knows some sight words.

So looking around there seems to be the Level 1 kit and then the Kindergarten/Level 1 Combo Kit which is way more expensive. What exactly is the difference? I read one review that said not to bother with the combo kit if your child already has letter recognition but then another review said you don't get the teacher's manual if you don't buy the kit.

It's my understanding that you can ONLY get the kindergarten teacher's manual if you order the combo. There is a separate teacher's manual for level 1, which you would get if you just ordered the Level 1 materials. I purchased a used K/1 combo pack and the instructor's manual was missing for the kindergarten portion, so I can't tell you what is in that manual. But, I can tell you that the two kindergarten workbooks are pretty self-explanatory so you really can do without the manual. I'm sure there are a lot more explanations and review or practice suggestions in the manual, but it worked fine for us last year. I couldn't do this year without the 1st grade manual, though. You can order one or both of the consumable kindergarten workbooks through the publisher, but you can not order just the teacher's manual.

Hope that helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Hi there, I think you will totally love this program. My kids have been loving it for the last two years. If you child already knows the letter and their sounds, you do not need the combo kit. The kindergarten book teaching the letter and sounds only. It also teaching things like matching, shapes, colors, patterns, etc. The same things you could get at a cheap book from walmart. One of my daughters is using it right now for kindergarten. We just finishing learning the letters and their sounds. She will start with the first grade booklet starting in January after our Christmas break. There are so many great songs and games with this program. IF you have any more specific questions, feel free to PM me.
