how much solids at 6-7 months?

How much solids does your 6-7 month old eat? Mine will eat maybe one or two ounces of pureed veggies, OR about 2oz of cereal. Is this enough? How many times a day should I be feeding him?

I have a 3 yr old, but I don't remember how much she ate at this age. Seems like more than my DS, though.

Thats about how much my 7mo is eating, although most days it's less, like tonight he ended up getting way more carrots on him than he did in I usually do like 2 table spoons of cereal mixed with 2 ice cubed sized lumps of banana or apple sauce for breakfast and then the same ratio of cereal to squash (or whatever he is eating for supper) when we eat at night. I also nurse him as often as he needs throughout the day and night. I think right now, it's more about experimenting with tastes, textures than it is about actual nourishment, I know he still gets most of it from breastmilk.

I've never mixed cereal and fruits or veggies. Do you do that with all your baby's meals?

We're not doing purees, just table foods, but it depends on his mood how much he eats and if he really likes something of not. I made super soft broccoli the other night and he couldn't get enough, definitely ate the equivalent of a full jar of pureed. Than last night and today he want almost nothing - more interested in trying to crawl, lol.

Just follow your babies lead. Offer more and see if he or she eats it. If not, than you know they had enough.

1-2 ounces sounds about what mine's eating (7.5 months old), maybe occasionally a bit more if it's something she likes a lot (banana and pear, especially). She does some purees, some lumpy textures, and rice rusks. She's still only eating once a day (dinner). As a PP said, at this point she's still getting most nutrients from breastmilk, so eating is more for the learning experience. I think how much food depends on when you're planning to wean-- as you move up to that time, just gradually replace nursing sessions with small meals, and/or offer food before the boob.

If you decied to go the puree route here is a great site that has a lot of information on how much per meal and how often to feed them. It's not aimed at weaning you child by 1 year as so many other sites are.

As of late yes, *mostly* because I make his food and am still trying to figure out the best method to thaw and warm it up w/o a microwave, so I've been thawing it in the fridge overnight and then adding some warm water from the tea kettle to warm it up a bit before I give him any. The cereal helps to absorb any extra water.

I would love to know more/ try skipping purees altogether...

I don't really think it matters much how much they're eating at that age as long as their primary food is breast milk (or formula), and they are gaining weight. Some babies aren't even eating any solids at that age. DD didn't start eating solids until about 7 months. I know people who wait until 9 months to a year.

Check out http://babyledweaning.com/ . Note that the definition of "weaning" in this case has nothing to do with stopping breast feeding. It is just the introduction of solid foods.

You don't need to feed purees at all, you can follow a method called Baby Lead Weaning or BLW. I would highly suggest getting the book, http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...condition=used.

Basically you give your baby steak fry sized pieces of soft foods and let the baby feed themselves.

DS is 7 months old and not eating anything. I don't do pureed foods and he isn't ready to feed himself so no foods. I'll give him something to naw on once in a while, he had fun shredding a roll yesterday but makes all sorts of faces when crumbs actually get in his mouth.

BLW freaks me out, I am too scared of choking, haha. We do textures other than just straight puree, though.

Food before a year old is for getting used to the taste and textures and not for nutrition, so really it doesn't matter how much the baby is eating or not, as long as they are still taking in plenty of breastmilk.

We also don't do cereals/purees/jarred baby food. They get whatever I have available at the table, barring anything that poses a choking hazard or they are intolerant/allergic to. My youngest who will be a year old in a couple of days eats lots of egg yolks, cheese, beans, hamburger, etc... She also loves her some good, dark chocolate but of course she can't eat that every day.

I wouldn't be worried about your lo. Sounds like everything is going fine. Next time you sit down at the table give him some soft finger foods and see how he does with them.

We're doing BLW here. I cant really say how much my 7month eats, but she loves food. Gets happy when she sees it, cries if you dont give her some of whatever you're eating. She's had all kinds of things and seems to like everything so far, like today, she had some apple sauce in the morning, a bit of homemade banana bread as a snack (it was for me, but she begged and ate more than I expected her to) and then ate some tortilla with guacamole. She seems to be getting down more and more food, but a lot still ends on her, the floor and the cat's mouth. I really have no expectations for her to eat a certain amount of food. It's fun to take it easy and she's happy, so Im happy too
