How do I tell people to stop giving us crap? - Page 2

Brilliant, A Blog!

I knew there was a reason I asked this question here. In addition to a tool to communicate with family, I think I need a place where I can rant about why children's winter boots aren't warm, and why I can't find wool socks in small enough sizes to remedy this situation.

This is what I deal with in my family. I smile and say "thanks." I just filled the back of my min-van with brand-new, unopened toys that we've accrued over the past year for a charity that helps women and children transition from a domestic violence shelter into their own homes.

Some toys got opened right away. The kids kept the ones they played with, and after a week or two the unloved toys were spirited away to the basement. When they didn't ask about them for several weeks/months, I took them to Goodwill.

I've beat my head on that wall for long enough. I understand that the toys come from a place of love, and with as much love as I can muster, I load them up for someone else to enjoy.

When people ask what the kids want, I name something from a place they're likely to shop. You can get legos at ToysRUs. Target has a great set of wood blocks. Long underwear work as pj's, but they're not treated with flame retardant, and you can buy them everywhere, so I always say long underwear....

Some things I just accept I will have to buy for myself...diapers, the ergo, beeswax crayons, practically every book in this house....
