healthiest heat source

Thread Starter
our gas heater had a leak and was turned off by the company. We are renting but now its 25 degrees and we have no heat. Ive been doing some reading and at seems that gas heaters and other appliances are unhealthy and have all kinds of chemicals that go into the air when used.

Im looking for an alternative.

How do you heat your home? Anyone know what is the safest form of heat healthwise?

It seems that every thing I check into is somehow toxic...

From personal experience I can say that heating with a high efficency wood stove has almost cleared my constantly blocked sinus'. In years past I have spent entire heating seasons with a blocked nose. The past two winters we have heated with wood in the wood firplace insert and I am so much better. I am allergic to dust and dust isn't being blown everywhere from the heating system.

It is certainly not the most convienient though. You have to be around to watch the fire. If we're sleeping or not home the house isn't heated. This morning we woke up and the house was 12C/54F. Two hours later the room the fire is in is at 17.6C/64F but the rest of the house is at 15C/59F.

ETA: I just got in from chopping wood for 1 hour. The kindling and smaller pieces should last 7-10 days then I will have to chop more wood into smaller pieces.
