Help! DS accidentally ate me@t!

My son is 3 1/2 and has been vegetarian all his life; technically lacto-ovo but with very little dairy or eggs. Last night at my parent's house he ate a fish stick before anyone caught him. This morning he kept throwing up, but didn't have a fever or even seem to feel bad aside from vomiting. Could it be from eating the fish stick?

Most of what I've read online said that when a vegetarian/vegan throws up after eating animal products, it's psychological, not physical. But he doesn't understand the psychological ramifications, so could it possibly be a true physical reaction? I know nothing can be done about it now, I'd just like to know for future reference. He does generally know to not eat me@t (me: "Do we eat animals?" DS: "Noooo, we pet them!" ), but I doubt he's ever even seen a fish stick before so he didn't recognize it as me@t.

Thanks for your help!

I would think that eating it could have made him sick...even if it wasnt the "fish" think of all the other nastiness in those things lol.

I would just watch him, keep the fluids up and still make sure on the fever and other flu symptoms. When he'sfeeling a bit better I would also discuss about sneaking food...not in a harsh way but just in a mommy wants to make sure that doesnt happen again kinda way

When I was a kid, sometimes deep-fried, battered food would make me throw up. I think my stomach just couldn't easily handle the amount and type of fat in it.

Hope he feels better soon!

Thanks everyone! I'm pretty sure now that the fish sticks (whether the fish part or like you guys said, whatever other nasty fried stuff is in there!) did make him sick. He stopped throwing up in the afternoon, never had a fever or any other symptoms. So, it was probably that.

At home he's pretty much allowed to get whatever food he wants, whenever he wants, because it's all veggie and mostly healthy. I'll have to let him know that doesn't work at other people's houses too. :-) I'm just glad it was short-lived!

Thanks and take care!
