Nursing to Sleep 1yr old

This is my 1st post-Will he grow out of this on his own? How does that happen - what is the progression?

My son will only fall asleep nursing- for naps, for bedtime and for all wake ups. He als takes naps on me in rocking chair and co-sleeps with us. He doesn't fall asleep in the carseat - he used to, but only if sucking on my finger - hasn't done this sine he started biting me with teeth. I wear him in the ergo, and he'll only sleep in there if nursed. He used to fall asleep without, but it's been a long time!!!

I love nursing him and I don't know how long I will nurse. I don't have plans on stopping anytime soon. He wakes up in the night often to nurse back to sleep and I'm okay with it - I feel like at some point he'll learn to STTN.

I'm worried that I've created a bad thing. Tell me stories of children who constantly nursed to sleep and then when and how they transitioned to not nursing. Will I be nursing a 4 year old to sleep?

You have not created a bad thing. Dd did the same thing and at about 13 months I night weaned her which was actually way easier then I though.I think she was ready to sleep thru the night. I used Jay Gordons method but tweaked it a little for DD. She begin sleeping thru the night in 3 night Now she's 18 months and is only nursing 1-2 times a day. nap time IF she doesn't fall asleep in car seat or daddy rocking her and she always nurses to sleep at night....still not sure how I'm going to transition the bed time nursing.
The key is to do things gradually so they don't become traumatized. That's worked really well for DD. Of course 1-2 times for a 18 month old isn't very much but I've been working on weaning.

Both mine fell asleep nursing until the week they weaned at 2y7m old. I did however night wean (no nursing between sun down and sun up) at 2yo because neither would sleep longer than 2 hours and I couldnt do it any more.
