Looking for a simple apple crisp recipe w/o butter... I had my heart set on making some today and, gasp, no butter in the fridge... normally I love any excuse to make a trip out to the store, however it is snowing like crazy , so I would rather try it without Thanks!

Do you have any solid fat? CO, palm, even lard would work.

Heck, you could probably do it with a liquid oil - in a crisp it's purposes are simple. It's a cobbler that would be harder to do with liquid.

Just stir the topping ingredients together except the butter, then stir in JUST enough oil to make it all moist, and sprinkle it all over. I always make it that way with melted coconut oil

Yep, I've done it with coconut oil and didn't notice a difference. I do add a little salt to mimick salted butter.
