too much cod liver oil?

I'm a nursing mama and take the wapf recommended dose of clo (2 teaspoons high vitamin). Lately i'm noticing all of our clothes stink of clo. I suspect the smell is in my breast milk, which, 6 weeks post-partum, gets all over my clothes then goes in the wash and spreads around. Is there any reason to worry that i'm taking too much?

Any suggestions about dealing with the stink other than wash on hot, plus Bac Out?

It's possible too that maybe someone else in the house spilled a tiny bit or got it on their clothes and then it went through the wash with everything else. We had several issues like that and now have a strict paper towel policy for CLO- it STINKS.

I don't think you're taking too much.... If you're six weeks PP, hopefully the leaking will slow down soon.

We've had good luck with filling up the washing machine drum with hot water, soaking everything for an hour with a large quantity of baking soda, and then running as usual. We just moved and our new house has a front loading washer, so I'm not real sure how to get it out without a top loading washer though.

I don't know about the smell going through breast milk, but it definitely has a strong and persistent odor if it gets on any clothes, even dishes (esp plastic ones that I hand wash.) DS1 has a sweatshirt that some spilled on MONTHS ago, and it has probably been washed at least half a dozen times since then, but I can still see it and smell it a little bit.

Perhaps you should make sure your fats are balanced? Are you getting enough saturated fat and monounsaturated fat? I don't know what the recommended ratios are, but it might help to adjust them a bit. I had the same thing happen to me while breastfeeding infant dd1, only with me it was chicken fat, which incidentally also has a lot of polyunsaturates. I leaked a lot then, especially at night, and would wake up smelling chicken!

I would suspect contamination from other stuff in the laundry - that's happened to me on several occasions. The best thing for it is to pre-wash anything with CLO on it using dish soap, rinse well, and THEN put in the regular laundry.

We now also have a strict paper-towel policy for CLO - especially wiping DD's mouth after she takes it.
