afraid of the pushing stage - Page 3

Pushing for me was like being on automatic pilot. I didn't have much choice however I do wish I had been more insistent on trying some different positions -- I think it might have gone easier during the ring of fire stage to have been vertical. In fact I had several rings of fire as I pushed her out and she went back in....

I hated pushing. It felt like throwing up out of my vagina. You know when you've thrown up everything in your stomach, even the acid, and then you just have the dry heaves? That's what pushing felt like to me.

That said, it wasn't really painful. Just the sensation was horrendous!

I can't recommend enough having labor support in the form of a doula. My doula was not able to be at my birth (I went into labor on the ONE day she had an unbreakable obligation!!) and I think that I wouldn't have freaked out so much about the pushing if she'd been there to guide me through it. So, definitely consider labor support! If it turns out that having an extra person there IS a distraction, no one is going to have their feelings hurt if you ask them to leave you alone for a bit!
